Can you put a cast iron skillet in a dishwasher? Well, that's the question for today. Can you put a cast iron skillet in a dishwasher? Are cast iron skillets dishwasher safe? Well, we're going to do that and see what it looks like. We've got some Cascade pods here. So we're going to get this started, and we'll show you what this looks like when we're done. Okay, well, we got our skillet here in the dishwasher. We're going to put us one of those little pads or pods in here. Close that up. Get the skillet in here. Close this baby up. And we're going to start to wash this thing. Well, we went ahead and put this on a normal cycle. It's got a high-temperature, sani-rinse, heat dry, and so we started it. So we'll give this time to run, and we'll take a look and see what this turns out to be. Okay, well, this normal cycle in this dishwasher; uh, we put it on a normal cycle. It was high-temperature sani-rinse and heat dry; it took two hours and 20 minutes to complete the cycle. So let's just see what this skillet looks like here. Okay, I'm gonna see if I can pull this out here. And show you what the skillet looks like. Okay, as you can see, it has completely taken a lot of the seasoning off of this skillet. And there is surface rust already forming on this cast iron skillet, even on the handle. So can you put a cast-iron skillet in the dishwasher? Yes, you can. Is it safe to put a cast-iron skillet in the dishwasher? Yes, it's safe. But this is what happens. This is the reason why you never want to put a cast-iron skillet in a dishwasher to wash it. Because the heat and the water will strip the seasoning. The soap and everything will strip the seasoning, and it will make the cast iron skillet begin to rust immediately. So I do not recommend you ever put a cast iron skillet in a dishwasher just to clean it. There's other ways of doing it. We've got other videos to show how to clean it. And this is not one of them. Well, that's what happens when you put a cast-iron skillet in the dishwasher. Can it be done? Yes, it can be done, but I do not recommend you do that.
