Which Oil Do You Use To Season Your Cast Iron Skillet

(QOTD) In today's video, Mr. Cast Iron was asked, "Which oil do you use to season your cast iron skillet?" And it's as simple as ABC. When seasoning my Lodge cast iron pan or any new skillet, my go-to is Crisco. Crisco is how I start the seasoning process whenever I have stripped the cast iron down to bare iron. I add about three layers, and I am good to go. Crisco is a vegetable oil and has a smoke point of 490 degrees. Bacon grease is one of my favorites, simply because I love bacon. Bacon grease has a smoke point of 350 degrees, making it the lowest on this list. Avocado oil is great and comes in with a smoke point of 520 degrees Fahrenheit.
