Everyone loves a good steak. But, not everyone knows how to cook a good steak. With this simple recipe, everyone you serve will be smiling. A smiling face is what we all look for!

It doesn’t have to be a ribeye or sirloin steak either. You can use any size steak, thickness, or grade of meat. It really doesn’t matter too much. The only thing is you will need to adjust cooking times for thicker or thinner steaks.

Doneness is another thing we need to discuss here. If you like your steak rare, cut back a minute or so. If you like your steak well done, you may need to add a minute or two. Experimenting is what makes cooking fun!

How To Cook A Steak In A Cast Iron Skillet

*Ingredients Needed For A Juicy Cast Iron Skillet Steak*

12-16 ounce rib eye or t bone steak, approximately 1/2″ to 1″ thick

olive oil or oil of your choice

kosher salt

fresh ground black pepper

How To Cook Steak In A Cast Iron Skillet

Recipe Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Wash and pat dry your steak and set aside.
  3. Preheat your 12″ cast iron skillet for about 4 minutes over medium-high heat. Be careful with hot skillets. You may want to use a protective handle with your skillet.
  4. Rub the steak on both sides with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Place the steak in the skillet, and let it sear(brown) for 3-4  minutes.
  6. Flip the steak, and let it sear(brown) for another 3-4 minutes.
  7. Put the skillet into the preheated oven for 5 minutes. (This will be medium rare.). Adjust accordingly for your desired doneness.
  8. Remove the steak from the skillet to a plate or platter. You can cover it loosely with aluminum foil or a paper towel and allow it to rest for 5 minutes. ***It will continue to cook slightly under aluminum foil.***
  9. Remove from the plate and enjoy!!

How Do You Cook A Steak On A Cast Iron Pan On The Stove?

To cook a steak in a cast iron pan on the stove, you must preheat the cast iron to medium-high temperature. Add a couple of tablespoons of your favorite cooking oil to the pan as it heats up. Once the pan is hot, lay your steak in the pan and sear both sides for approximately 2-3 minutes for a medium well steak.

Do You Grease A Cast-Iron Skillet For Steak?

When searing a steak in a cast iron skillet at medium to medium-high temperatures, adding a couple of tablespoons of your favorite cooking oil is best. A high smoke point oil like Avocado oil is a good choice.

  3. Hey Mike the old cast irons never fade. I am ready to eat right now. I must say the recipe I must try. I do have one question.
    Did you have to seasoned the cast iron skillet before first use. I have seen my parents do that when they have brought a new cast iron skillet.
